How do we create a sense of Community at Tahquitz Creek Villa?

Through Open Communication – hence the creation of a Community Newsletter!

By Communicating and Understanding HOA Rules – When HOA rules are clearly articulated, misunderstandings can be kept to a minimum. All HOA documentation can be found on the WhiteStar Folio App for your convenience.

In the Common Areas – Open areas, Tennis/Pickleball Courts and the Pool all make great areas to bring the Neighbourhood together to chat and mingle!

Join a Volunteer Committee – Volunteers are always welcome!  Kindly reach out to WhiteStar and offer to join!

Meet Wilma – A TCV Resident Hummingbird!

Wilma has a close relationship with one of our Community members and decided to build her nest in their backyard!

We have a few Hummingbird nests around the property!  Hummingbirds recognize and remember their environment hence it is likely they remember people as well.  They are known to fly about to alert them to empty feeders or sugar water.  Put out a Hummingbird feeder – watch all their activity and make a new friend!

A gentle reminder to not touch hummingbird nests as it is illegal to touch, relocate, or remove an active nest.  Importantly, birds can abandon nests if disturbed or harassed, dooming eggs and hatchlings. **Above Photos taken with a long-range lens**

How do Hummingbird’s Mate?

People falsely believe that Hummingbirds mate in midair. Hummingbirds can’t walk or bounce on the ground, but they can perch. Hummingbirds mate while perched on tree branches or other structures.  Female Hummingbirds will have between one and three broods each year typically having two eggs, giving rise to baby Hummingbirds called chicks.

When Do Hummingbird Eggs Hatch?

Eggs can be laid a day apart, but hatch on the same day.  The incubation time is 12 to 18 days and leave the nest 18 to 28 days after hatching.

Around our Community:

  • It is recommended that Hummingbird Feeders are sanitized, and food replaced every 4 or 5 days, more often in the hot Summer months. With Hummingbird feeders one of the few bird feeders allowed, let’s do our best to encourage the Hummingbirds to our property!

  • Our Annual Fruit Picking Party has been suspended for this year. Discount Landscaping will be trimming and removing the fruit on the same day.  There will be baskets of the picked fruit placed in the Central pool area for one day.  Feel free to help yourself!   Discount Landscaping will be dropping off the leftover fruit to local organizations who are currently accepting donations.  Stay tuned for the date!
  • Landscaping Committee:
  • Our shrubs may appear stressed at this time of year, but when you look closely you can see they have gone dormant for winter. Their greenery is on its way back (keep a watch for now).
  • The Bougainvillea throughout our property have been left alone during the winter period, based on their type, Discount Landscaping will begin to trim them shortly.
  • Pre-emergent Fertilization of our Grass areas took place last week to stop weeds from growing with the (fingers crossed) warmer weather approaching.
  • Fertilization of the Bermuda grass will take place once it starts to grow to accelerate the root’s growth.
  • Fertilization of the Shrubbery will take place towards the end of March.
  • Desert Water Agency water restrictions are still in effect.
  • There is spray/sprinkler irrigation allowed during daylight hours to verify leaks or do maintenance only. If you see our Irrigation system on during daylight hours other than for the above reasons, please contact WhiteStar right away so we may avoid any fines.
  • Perimeter Wall:
  • The front entrance/ West Wall has been replanted with all the dead foliage removed. This area will fill in over the next six months.
  • East Wall Project:
  • Construction of the East Wall by Lumen was to start this week but has been delayed due to the wet and windy weather. It will commence as soon as the weather conditions become more favorable.   We will keep you updated as we hear more.  We hope to be completely done with this project by early April.
  • Pool Area:
  • Thank you to everyone for keeping all our Pool areas clean and tidy!
  • Animal Waste on the property:
  • Yes, rats and mice eat dog’s business otherwise known as poop! Dog waste is a primary food source for rats and mice.  If that isn’t bad enough, it’s also important to remember that rats and mice can find their way into just about anything.  Be sure your trash bins are safe from rodents and kindly clean up after your pets!!
